Governor Sanders Visits Russellville School District

Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders visited Russellville School District to learn about the District’s current initiatives and outlook for future plans. Governor Sanders toured Oakland Heights Elementary and hosted a Town Hall at The Center for the Arts Black Box Theatre with Russellville and surrounding area education professionals, community members, and business leaders. Also in attendance was Arkansas Secretary of Education, Jacob Oliva, and Senator Breanne Davis.

At Oakland Heights Elementary, the Governor heard from teachers about the professional learning community process, which focuses on teacher collaboration. Oakland Heights Elementary has been a part of the Professional Learning Communities (PLC) Cohort 6 through Solution Tree Arkansas, where staff have been provided hands-on and readily available support through implementing the PLC processes.

"It was an honor to showcase our accomplishments to Governor Sanders. We are proud of the work and growth our students and staff have experienced this year!”, commented Mrs. Sheri Shirley, Oakland Heights Elementary School Principal.

Governor Sanders also had the opportunity to hear the impact of Capturing Kids’ Hearts, the social emotional learning process currently being implemented across Russellville School District.

Dr. McDonald, Russellville School District Superintendent, commented, “RSD has great educators and students doing amazing work, and it is a moment of pride to see them share their work with the Governor.”

The day concluded with the Town Hall hosted at The Center for the Arts.  In an open discussion, between attendees and Governor Sanders and Secretary Oliva, attendees asked questions and gained more insight about the Arkansas LEARNs Act.

Thank you, Governor Sanders, for visiting Russellville!
