Beginning July 1st, 2023, the Russellville School District and Arkansas Tech University will implement the Teacher Residency program with a select number of residency students who are completing their education degree.
The program will be a year-long residency within a classroom/school setting in which the students will participate in activities designed to provide valuable experience in all aspects of teaching. The teacher residents will be provided with valuable work based learning experience under the mentorship of veteran RSD teachers.
Dr. Ginni McDonald, the Russellville School District Superintendent, says “This is an outstanding opportunity for students entering the field of education. The amazing teachers we have at RSD will be excellent mentors to these students.”
There will be 3 students selected to participate in this program and these students will be paid a base salary for a paraprofessional. ATU will provide $20,000 towards assisting RSD in the payment of these residents. The teacher residents will begin the school year when teachers return on August 9th, 2023 and will be required to spend a minimum number of days in the classroom setting for both semesters of the 2023-2024 school year.
The Russellville School District would like to thank Arkansas Tech University for their partnership in this opportunity.
