Gales shine on record breaking night
Both the RMS Boys & Girls track teams persevered through less than ideal conditions to post resounding victories in the 2022 version of the Gales Relays held at Don Carnahan Track at Cyclone Stadium.
Eleven other teams attended the event with both RMS teams winning in excess of 100 points. In the boy’s division the boys posted a total of 230 points and finishing in second place was Ruth Doyle MS of Conway with 89.50 points. In the girl’s division the Lady Gales posted a score of 217 points and finishing 2nd was Ruth Doyle MS of Conway (82). The Pottsville Lady Apaches also had a nice performance finishing third overall with a total of 78 points.
The night was highlighted by two outstanding performers as the Lady Gales Jasmine Garcia scored a total of 38 individual points and received a plaque for her accomplishment.
In the boy’s division it was a record setting night as Samario Hibler broke Cole Hathcote’s 2015 hurdle record of 16.39. Hibler sped his way to the record in a time of 15.95 which may very well be the fastest time in the state for a 7th grader this year. Hibler was also named the boys outstanding performer also collecting wins in the 100, 200, & long jump.
Coach Joey Fisher said, “I am just so proud of all our kids and the outstanding effort on a less than desirable night for a meet. Despite the harsh conditions we had several personal bests and the kids all did their very best!”
The Gales will be back in action next Monday at Beebe and then wrap up their season on April 18 at Conway.
Important tryout information for 7th grade boys basketball.
